In an effort to highlight REDD+ projects in Latin America, over 8 indigenous and Afro-descendant community leaders from Colombia and Brazil, together with BIOFIX, joined an unprecedented virtual event.
Bogotá, April 17, 2024As part of BIOFIX's sixth anniversary, on April 18th, starting at 9:00 a.m., local communities took center stage in a virtual event where they could share their experiences, challenges, and achievements in the implementation of REDD+ projects.
The event, which was broadcasted through BIOFIX's social media channels, also featured the participation of Ana Milena Plata, CEO of BIOFIX; Carolina Jarro, General Director of BIOFIX in Colombia; and Cristiane Leme, Operations Director of BIOFIX in Brazil.
In this space, community leaders shared firsthand the positive impacts that REDD+ projects have had on their communities, both socially and environmentally. A variety of key topics were highlighted, including health, gender equity, safeguards, infrastructure, education, and conservation.
These leaders presented the various projects they were carrying out in the Colombian Amazon, Orinoquía, and Pacific regions, as well as in Brazil, providing a comprehensive insight into their efforts to preserve natural ecosystems and promote the well-being of their communities.
This event not only represented an opportunity to learn about ongoing environmental projects in both countries but also served as a celebration of BIOFIX's commitment to conservation and sustainable development in the region.
