The project comprises the Consejo Comunitario mayor of Juradó “THE MARLIN” and the Greater Council of Nóvita – COCOMAN, who work together to protect the forest by reducing and monitoring deforestation and forest degradation.
The name of the project is due to the unification of the two community councils, and the proximity of one of these to the border with Panama. COCOMAN BORDER REDD seeks to protect 133.637 hectares of humid tropical forest and the benefit of over 5,000 people inhabiting the territory.
