KALIAWIRI REDD+ is featured among the top 500 best projects in Latin America
This project, aimed at the conservation of 358.000 hectares of humid tropical forest in the departments of Vichada and Guainía, has been recognized by Awards Latin america Green in your version 2021 as one of the best in the continent.
April 14, 2021. KALIAWIRI REDD+ is a project developed by BIOFIX in partnership with 7 Guards Indigenous peoples Sikuani and Piapoco that seeks to protect 358.000 hectares of forest in an area of transition Orinoco – Amazon region, Colombia, given its physical conditions and weather make it a key for the regulation of the climate, the uptake of CO2 emissions and conservation of the biodiversity.
Through its territorial autonomy, the Indigenous reserves: Cali, Barranquilla, Concordia, Flower Hat, Chocón, River Siare Ravine Cute, Saracure River Each and Guaco High and Low, looking to perform processes of conservation framed in sustainability criteria that have to do with the protection of areas of natural forests, rescue and protection of their cultural identity and promotion of productive practices that aimed for the protection of biodiversity and the richness environmental of its territory.
“This recognition to get the Project KALIAWIRI REDD+, among more than 2,500 postulates, is the result of a joint work with the communities that make up and it is the confirmation of the excellent work in the field of conservation and compensation of CO2 emissions that we are developing in Colombia,” says Ana Milena Silver, Manager of BIOFIX.
With a postulation of more than 2,500 projects in the americas, KALIAWIRI REDD+ was ranked 394 among the top 500, and ranked 23rd in the category of Forests and Flora. This is the third project of conservation that ranks among the best in Latin America, under the structuring of BIOFIX, a company expert in the development of nature-based solutions that today leads the structuring of 9 projects in Colombia in partnership with communities of african and indigenous people, and allies territorial.
Among its main features, KALIAWIRI is formulated methodology under the REDD+, which also seeks to control and reduce the deforestation and forest degradation, promote forest governance, entrepreneurship, gender equality, the rescue of cultural tradition and ancestry, and alinderamiento territory, as well as reforestation and community-based monitoring; deployment of renewable energy and improvement of infrastructure in communications, mobility, health, recreation, and automation of the production processes developed by the communities to self-sufficiency.
After this recognition, awarded by Awards Latin america Green, BIOFIX highlights the work carried out by Flora and Fauna KUMALI'BO, a regional partner that has accompanied the process and has been key in the communication between the communities that make up the project.
All the management has been developed around this initiative is based on the framework of the voluntary carbon market created in Colombia to companies subject to the carbon tax can be applied to not causation of the same and contribute to the development of the communities that have the largest forested areas in the country, which mostly correspond to communities ethnic.
