International day of the environment: ecosystem Restoration
On the 5th of June is the International Day of the Environment, and we join the call to make international entities to create awareness about the care and protection of our ecosystems.
In the framework of the celebration of the International day of the Environment with the approach proposed by the UN: “ecosystem Restoration” we expose the urgency of preventing, arresting and reversing the damage caused to the ecosystems in the world.
According to the United Nations, every three seconds the world loses an area of forest equivalent to a football field and, only in the last century, we've destroyed the half of our wetlands. 50% of our coral reefs have already been lost, and by 2050, they could disappear up to 90%, even if global warming is to be limited to a rise of 1.5°C.
In addition, the loss of the ecosystems you are depriving the world of carbon sinks, such as forests and the truberas, in a time when humanity can no longer afford it.

What happens with the ecosystems of Colombia?
In Colombia, there are about 8 ecosystems: wasteland, savanna, desert, tropical forest, mangrove, coral reefs, seagrass and pelagic ecosystem. And these are divided into terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Due to the different activities for the human being and the changing climate, 96 types of ecosystems of Colombia reported by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies – IDEAM, almost half are located in high risk, some in a critical condition and danger.
The impact that this can generate is massive, as the deterioration of the ecosystems, as a consequence, loss of biodiversity, water resources, air quality, and soil, among many other negative consequences.

“Reimagina, recreates and restores”, focus on environment day
We all depend on the ecosystems, so there are no excuses or reasons for refusing to care for them, and help restore means to go from exploiting nature to cure it. For the UN, this is a very important issue, and its mission for 2030 is to relive thousands of millions of hectares, from forests to crop lands, from the top of the mountains to the depths of the sea.
BIOFIX present in the care and restoration of ecosystems
Although there is a special day to raise awareness about the care of the environment, BIOFIX in partnership with communities of african and indigenous peoples in Colombia, carried out the protection of 1’235.724 hectares of forests in the country, through 9 REDD+projects.
