Palameku Kuwei REDD+: National recognition for its contribution to environmental conservation

Palameku Kuwei REDD+ was recognized in the first edition of the Green Carpet, an event organized by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development in alliance with the National School of Environmental Training SAVIA, as one of the most outstanding initiatives in terms of conservation and sustainability.
Located in Cumaribo, Vichada, this REDD+ project is led by six indigenous reserves of the Sikuani and Piapoco peoples, and aims to protect more than 32,000 hectares of Amazon forest, directly benefiting more than 4,000 people.

Conservation, environmental education, and indigenous leadership
Palameku Kuwei REDD+ is consolidated as a model of community management that links indigenous leadership with climate action. Thanks to the social investment carried out by the communities, the project has promoted environmental education programs as well as cultural strengthening processes that ensure long-term sustainability and territorial rootedness.

Its visibility in institutional spaces such as the Green Carpet confirms the importance of integrating ancestral knowledge with modern environmental protection strategies, recognizing the key role of indigenous communities in the fight against climate change.
