Delfines Cupica REDD+ Project wins the 2021 BIBO Award for Nature-Based Solutions

The Delfines Cupica REDD+ project was awarded first place in the category "Actions framed in nature-based solutions" during the 2021 BIBO Awards, organized by El Espectador. This recognition highlights the joint work between the Community Councils of the Northern Pacific Coast of Chocó – Los Delfines and Cupica, in alliance with BIOFIX Consultoría S.A.S BIC, for their impact on environmental conservation and community development in the northern Pacific coast of Colombia.
Conservation in one of the most biodiverse and vulnerable regions of the country

The project is carried out in the municipalities of Bahía Solano and Juradó, Chocó, and aims to protect more than 103,000 hectares of tropical rainforest, home to unique species of flora and fauna. In addition to its environmental benefits, Delfines Cupica REDD+ responds to the social needs of one of the regions with the highest levels of multidimensional poverty in Colombia.
Carbon, biodiversity, and community well-beingThe project is financed through the sale of carbon credits in the Colombian market, enabling sustainable income generation for local communities and strengthening their environmental governance. This initiative has demonstrated how nature-based solutions can integrate the fight against climate change with the reduction of historic social gaps in neglected territories.

The BIBO Award confirms the value of REDD+ projects that integrate conservation, social justice, and economic sustainability at the local level.
