7 REASONS TO PROTECT THE FORESTS
Trees are essential to life. It would suffice to say that they are so important for humanity, as it is to breathe.
March 5, 2021. The oxygen that we need to live is processed by the trees during photosynthesis, these are in charge of taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere (CO2), break it down and release oxygen, a process essential for the planet and the human subsistence.
When the trees make up a forest become generators of life. Within the forests, it is what is known as biodiversity, these ecosystems are home to thousands of species of flora and fauna, which are food and shelter. However, this does not happen from one moment to another, it is a process that takes millions of years, that is why it is so important to preserve this type of ecosystem. The forest gives life.
Trees have played an important role in the survival of living beings throughout all its history, given its characteristics as protective against the cold, the rain, the winds and suppliers of food.
Then, we point out the eight reasons to take care of the trees; the main, among many other reasons why we should conserve them.
- Regulate temperature of the earth, avoiding to increase uncontrollably.
- They are the protectors of the land, avoiding that it will erode or be desertifique.
- Absorb the carbon dioxide, regulating the levels of pollution in the air.
- Perform a process of retention and storage of water collected during rainy season, which will later be released in times of drought.
- Fertilize the soil increasing the organic matter.
- Are the home and refuge of plants and animals.
- House special for the production of food and medicines.
Currently, through the REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) BIOFIX, in partnership with communities of african and indigenous peoples in Colombia, carried out the protection of 1’235.724 hectares of forests in the country, whose objective, in addition to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation also seeks to mitigate the effects of climate change, preserve and improve the Environmental Services associated with forests, to promote the sustainable management of forests, to conserve and promote the sustainable use of biodiversity, improve the quality of life of communities, and promote gender equity.
