Kaliawiri REDD+ among the 500 best conservation projects in Latin America, according to Premios Latinoamérica Verde

The Kaliawiri REDD+ project, developed by BIOFIX Consultoría S.A.S BIC in alliance with seven Indigenous Reserves of the Sikuani and Piapoco peoples, was recognized as one of the 500 best environmental projects in Latin America in the 2021 edition of Premios Latinoamérica Verde, ranking 394th overall and 23rd in the Forests and Flora category among more than 2,500 applications from across the continent.
Located in a transition zone between the Colombian Orinoquía and the Amazon, the project seeks to protect 358,000 hectares of natural forest, which are essential for climate regulation, CO₂ emissions capture, and the conservation of one of the planet’s greatest biological biodiversities.

Indigenous autonomy, sustainability, and climate action
Kaliawiri REDD+ is based on a model of indigenous governance that promotes territorial autonomy and the sustainable management of natural resources. The following reserves participate:
- Cali Barranquilla
- Concordia
- Flores Sombrero
- Chocón
- Río Siare Barranco Lindo
- Saracure Río Cada
- Guaco Alto y Bajo
These communities lead actions aimed at forest protection, cultural heritage recovery, and the implementation of sustainable productive practices that ensure the continuity of their environmental and cultural legacy.

This international recognition positions Kaliawiri REDD+ as an exemplary initiative that brings together ancestral knowledge, ecological conservation, and effective climate action from the territories.
