Delfines Cupica REDD+ Conservation Project

A Model of Conservation and Community Resilience in Chocó

The DELFINES CUPICA REDD+ project stands out in Colombia as a model of environmental conservation and sustainable development. Located in the collective territories of the Los Delfines and Cupica Community Councils in the municipalities of Bahía Solano and Juradó, Chocó, this project is set in a region of high biodiversity, protecting 113,025 hectares of tropical rainforest while promoting the preservation of endemic and endangered species. Through sustainable management practices, it aims to curb deforestation and contribute to carbon sequestration, strengthening the role of local communities in climate change mitigation.

DELFINES CUPICA REDD+ is a benchmark in Colombia and Latin America, demonstrating how environmental conservation and climate action can be integrated with community development. Proof of this is its recognition as the number one project in the Forests and Flora category at the Green Awards on the continent. This initiative shows that conservation efforts and the generation of carbon credits can have a significant impact, not only on ecosystem preservation but also on the lives of the people who protect them.

What Projects Have Been Implemented?

With the resources received through emissions compensation, local communities lead conservation initiatives that go beyond protecting the forest. Their commitment and effort not only ensure the health of the ecosystem but also strengthen cultural identity and promote economic development.

Strengthening Community Infrastructure

The objective of this initiative is to provide the community councils with adequate spaces that promote their effective participation in the project. To date, two facilities have been acquired and improved, contributing to the strengthening of community infrastructure and fostering an environment of collaboration and local development.
