Congress Current Status of the Colombian Market for Carbon

BIOFIX CONSULTING participated in the 22nd and 23rd of November actively in the Congress “CURRENT STATE OF THE CARBON MARKET AND EXPECTATIONS FOR THE 2020” the most important event for the carbon market in Colombia, making it part of the Organizing Committee along with institutions such as Moorland and Forests, USAID, ASOCARBONO AND CO2CERO.

Executive director Ana Milena Plata, moderated the panel “Challenges and Opportunities of Validation and Verification Bodies of projects of GHG mitigation”which involved entities as ICONTEC, PROCLIMA, ONAC and debated aspects of the role of these organisms in the carbon market in the face to the rules set forth in the Resolution 1447 2018. 

In addition, the Legal director of the company Marco Andres Gonzalez, participated in the Panel “The challenges and Opportunities of REDD+ Projects in Colombia” along with Wildlife Works, and South Pole Group, where they discussed technical and regulatory aspects on the development of these projects and the challenges or opportunities that represent the face of what is established in the Decree 926, 2017 and the Resolution 1447 2018. 

To complete the successful participation in this important event, our affiliate company was postulated with your project KALIAWIRI REDD+ at the end of the contest, CARLOS ÁLVAREZ DESCAMPE, which was selected among the top 3 projects of GHG mitigation in the forest sector category, REDD+, a project that was submitted by the indigenous authorities of the Department of Vichada. 

Thus, it highlights the importance of the event “CURRENT STATE OF THE CARBON MARKET AND EXPECTATIONS FOR THE 2020” where both ASOCARBONO, USAID, and MADS highlighted the important role of the companies developing REDD+ projects for the transfer of resources to indigenous communities and the functionality of the domestic market, which is a pioneer in the world.
