BIOFIX BIC Announces the Appointment of Carolina Jarro as General Director
After leading and providing technical guidance on one of Colombia’s most significant conservation strategies—the consolidation of the National System of Protected Areas and the management of Colombia’s National Natural Parks—Carolina Jarro Fajardo is transitioning to the private sector in the carbon market, recognizing its critical role in the fight against climate change, conservation, restoration, and sustainable land use.
Bogotá, February 14, 2024. BIOFIX BIC is pleased to announce the appointment of Carolina Jarro Fajardo as the company's new General Director. With a distinguished career in the environmental sector, she brings over 22 years of experience in both public and private entities, positioning her as a leader in nature conservation and management.
Carolina’s arrival at BIOFIX aims to strengthen existing implementations, focusing on the protection of ecosystem, biological, and cultural biodiversity within the company's project areas. Her work will also contribute to reducing deforestation, restoring ecosystems, and promoting sustainable local development. Her extensive experience working directly with communities will be essential in reinforcing the company's adherence to social and environmental safeguards.
A biologist from the National University of Colombia, specialist in Environmental Law from El Rosario University, and Master in Nature Management and Conservation from the University of Cádiz, Carolina has held key leadership roles, including:
- Deputy Director of Management and Administration of Protected Areas at Colombia’s National Natural Parks,
- Director of Environmental Management in Bogotá’s Secretariat of Environment,
- Leadership roles at the Bogotá Botanical Garden and other public institutions.
Throughout her career, she has achieved significant milestones, including:
- Surpassing Colombia’s goal of protecting 30% of its marine ecosystems ahead of schedule.
- Securing the first protected areas in the Americas under the "Green List" management standards, expanding and declaring 11 new protected areas managed by National Natural Parks,designing and initiating the implementation of the 2021-2030 National Protected Areas Policy, among others.
